Snowstorm announced today that there will be no BlizzCon 2021. The period issue was first held in 2005, but the coronavirus general squashed last year's event and has now ended plans for an in-person event this year (BlizzCon usually takes place in October operating theater Nov). This February saw the first BlizzConline as a realistic replacement for the incomprehensible 2020 case (and it had plenty going on), and it looks like something similar—but with a eddy—will fill the gap until ripe 2022 at the least.

A instruction from Saralyn Smith, executive director producer of BlizzCon, reads: "As guidelines in California around in the flesh gatherings remain to develop and the position of the pandemic fluctuates around the globe, the teams across Blizzard have been discussing what this means for one of the events we miss the most: BlizzCon. We know some of you mightiness follow wondering nigh your own plans to potentially sweep the country—let alone oceans—and meet your friends, crime syndicate, and confrere residential district members in California, so today, we wanted to give you a heads-up that we've decided we volition not exist holding BlizzCon this year.

"Building an in-someone BlizzCon is an epic and complex affair that takes many months of prep—non just for us, only also for the many gifted production partners, esports pros, hosts, entertainers, artists, and other collaborators we team up with locally and globally to put all of the pieces together. The on-going complexities and uncertainties of the epidemic have impacted our power to properly motility forward on many of these fronts, and ultimately we'ray now past the period where we'd personify able to develop the form of upshot we'd want to create for you in Nov."

The statement ends by locution that Rash is "provision a world-wide result for the early part of next twelvemonth" which will include an online reveal similar to BlizzConline, as well As "smaller personal gatherings."

The idea of smaller gatherings is an interesting unitary. No one knows when companies will be permitted to hold big global events like BlizzCon again, only the logistics and run a risk of, for example, an event limited to unrivalled country's population are likely to be more realistic.

"We very much count forward to celebrating with you all again," ends Blizzard's statement. "Until then, we'll see you in Azeroth, Outland, Sanctuary, and altogether the else worlds we call home."
